Acceptance Happens Every Day
Last year, my youngest son Jack made a new friend at school. His name is Keaton. Keaton is non-verbal and autistic. Although Keaton can’t speak, his light shines deep from within.
Keaton and Jack’s incredibly special bond was nurtured by their amazing 1st grade teacher, Ms. Amanda Delzell. During Jack’s time under her care, he learned how to be an advocate for his friend by making sure Keaton felt valued and included. Jack embraced the principles of inclusion and equity, learning to wholeheartedly support his friend. He came to understand that Keaton's differences aren't flaws but rather unique strengths – his very own superpowers!
We admire Keaton's courage for navigating a world that may not always understand him. Yet, we recognize Keaton as a cherished blessing to our community and to everyone fortunate enough to know and love him. We believe he entered our lives for a profound purpose, and we are certain that his story and bravery will inspire others as he continues to move mountains!
To honor our dear friend Keaton during Autism Acceptance Month, FiddleStitched will donate 50% from the sale of every necklace to the Autism Society of Iowa in Keaton’s name. 100% of this donation will stay in Iowa and 87 cents of every dollar donated goes directly to programming for families, teachers, educators, law enforcement and those on the autism spectrum.
